New Years Fitness: The Resolutions and the Rewards

2015 is here, and for many of us, we have made resolutions to get healthy and in shape. Those resolutions are the top two resolutions, with quitting smoking in close third. With current changes in society, people no longer want to get “thin”, but instead are focusing on becoming strong.  Today marks the second full week into 2015 and resolutions are already dwindling.

Did you know approximately 29% of people who strive to get in shape and healthy are already giving up on themselves? For someone who knows this all too well, I decided to motivate myself by creating a Rewards Jar. How this works for me is that every time I work out more than one hour with full commitment, and/or get my 10,000 steps in a day, I place a dollar in for one or both of these goals.  My game plan is once I reach $100, I can treat myself to something just for me such as a massage, a mani/pedi, or salon day, you name it. It’s tempting to place my hand in the jar to see where I am at but this is part of my challenge with self-control. Here is an inexpensive step-by-step DYI to creating your own goal jar.

Step 1: Start with a Mason Jar or even a recycled pasta sauce jar.

Step 2: Shop at local arts and crafts store for motivational stickers. Remember to take a coupon and check the clearance isle.

Step 3: Choose the words that have the most meaning to you as motivation for this journey.

Step 4: Apply your motivational words onto the jar. Just remember, they do not have to be perfect. We all have our imperfections and that is what makes us unique on our journey.

Step 5: Place your jar in a highly visible spot, so that you can see another form of motivation. This will help keep you on track, thinking about your reward for all the hard work that you’ve put in.

Tell me what some of your rewards would be with this money. Stay motivated with the New Year!

What a great idea! I love this. Now, how can I do this without stealing from my jar when I need cash???
